Assistant Director James Vivé
I’ve been with Career Services since August of 2005. Back then the office
was known as the Career Development Center. It has been fascinating to see the
changes and growth over time both within our office and for the university as a
whole. One of the things that has remained constant are the mission and values
of our institution which deeply inform the work we do in Career Services.
Helping students and alumni reflect on their experiences to help inform their
future decisions has been powerful and deeply gratifying work. It is an honor
to serve our community.
United States Marine Corps
Fitness
Challenge and Platoon Leader Info Session
Oh Thursday, March 7th from 2pm to 4:30pm, the US Marine Corps
will be hosting a fitness challenge on campus! The challenge will take place on
the front lawn of the fitness center where students can challenge their
strengths and see how they stand alongside Marine Corp members! Please join us
for this exciting challenge and stay afterwards for an information session if
you are interested in applying to become a Platoon Leader for the Marine Corps.
This program will challenge you, but will also put you far past your
college counterparts who will still be in entry-level internship positions.
Besides the opportunity to earn academic credit and add a great internship
experience for your resume, you will learn how to adapt, overcome and lead.
While your peers work behind a desk, you will have the opportunity to develop
leadership skills in a diverse environment surrounded by other motivated
individuals from around the country. This program is more than an internship;
it’s an opportunity to challenge yourself mentally, physically, emotionally and
spiritually beyond what you thought possible.
For more information, please contact Sarah Thomson in the Career Services
office by calling the front desk at 206-296-6080.

Q&A
“Is there a
certain standard for how resumes should look like?”
Yes, there is a standard on how resumes should generally look. Generally, a
resume is one page with your name bolded and larger than the other text to make
sure employers can decipher between the piles of resumes they receive. Most
employers will spend 15-30 seconds reading your resume so make sure to put the
most important information in the top 2/3 of the page and have tailored section
headings so it is easy to read. Check out our online resources here to
help you see some examples and create an outstanding resume for yourself! Our
advisors are also here to help you throughout the process so make sure to come
into our office to receive additional resources!
